Talking with Kanara is always a pleasure, and there are many exciting happenings coming in the world of Flurbils! A super special Enchantment Party at Tiny Outpost on October 29 at 4 PM SLT is just around the corner…so get ready for some flurbilicious fun!

Check out a sneak peek on what’s coming in the world of Flurbils in my interview with Kanara!

August 21, 2010

Sylkye: How did u all think of flurbils? they are better than Farmville to me...lolz

Kanara: well... lol, back in the day, we were one of the first to make animated creatures and as you might imagine, we put a silly twist on it. The silly is what kept people coming back for our stuff (cause I’m clearly not the best builder in the world.)We left SL for a while to explore other games and when we came back the face of SL had changed so much that we had to do something new, so Unoti started brainstorming ideas based on the following criteria...

  • a way for people to use their land, as you roam around SL so much land is empty and abandoned

  • something that brings back childhood memories

  • and of course, silly

Our first thoughts were ant hills and then habitrails...who didn’t have gerbils, hamsters or guinea pigs as kids!? Throw in the silly aspects of creatures doing people like things and you have flurbils!

Sylkye: How did you come up with the scientific names?...those really make me laugh...

Kanara: Well, I have to give Unoti credit for those. His brain moves a mile a minute, he's always making people laugh! and his coding ability is really the magic behind flurbils.... the builds would be a joke without his awesomeness ;)

Sylkye: Folks are very taken with their flurbils and enjoy playing...the enchantment rituals really bring groups together, how do you think those are going?

Kanara: Well, we have two feelings about them - They are so powerful that they make the other game play elements irrelevant, obsolete I guess is a better word.

Sylkye: how is that?

Kanara: well, it was intended to be a point bonus and you should still have to seek out other players to gain points. All you have to do is go run enchants and you'll get all the points you need. It wasn’t supposed to be the primary method of getting points so, we plan to tweak it eventually.... that said… We're actually beyond pleased with how much it’s brought people together to play. I see groups of folks that would otherwise never have met spending time together and having fun. That pleases me greatly, Unoti struggled with believing in the social aspects of the game but he’s a believer now!

Sylkye: So what is on the horizon for the world of flurbils?

Kanara: Well, first up is obviously recover from the great web server outage, lol At a high level, here is what's coming for game play...

1) Player point cap and prize flurbils finished and available all the way up

2) Habitats will become useful beyond that first set of points you get for them. There will be another sub-game (like enchanting is a sub-game). Won't be required to play, but good for more points and some fun personal achievements!

3) Abilities for flurbils making flurbils with lots of points…very special!

Sylkye: Wow, do you mean flurbils could multiply on their own?

Kanara: hehe no, they won’t multiply, but they will start to do fun things in the habitats beyond the greeting hearts and specific habitat activities. We haven’t totally fleshed this out but we're thinking along the lines of super powers for flurbils! So a flurbil with lots of points could affect point gains for everyone around it, making that flurbil owner very desirable. We don’t have all of the ideas carved out yet. The habitat sub game is next up on the list!

Sylkye: It sounds like there are many exciting plans for future fun with flurbils...

Kanara: Amidst all of that we'll do some website changes to include keeping track of when you accomplish certain things, titles, awards, things like that to make your flurbil page special.

Sylkye: That sounds fun too! :D

Kanara: We even have some really silly events that we'd like to get to at some point!

Sylkye: We are glad the site is back up so we can continue our flurbil fun!

Kanara: We are really sorry it was down so long, when we realized it was going to keep going down we decided to leave it til we actually had time to fix it.

Sylkye: It is great that you are able to help the players fix their flurbils...so all players have to do is IM you and place all flurbils in the content tab of a prim and send to you?

Kanara: Yup, I posted a forum thread about it, let me give you the link - http://flurbils.com/forums/general/43/

Sylkye: Great! Thanks so much for the sneak peak at the flurbilious plans for more fun with flurbils... :D
